Tap tempo
Measure tempo by tapping, with a rolling interval average and timing chart.
About this tool
Tap the large button or press Space in time with each main beat. Enter also activates the focused tap button. Pointer-down/key-down event timestamps are used; repeated held keys and activations less than 40 ms apart are ignored. Other fields/buttons keep their normal keyboard behaviour.
Tempo=60000/mean interval in milliseconds. The interval setting 2–32 means the last N intervals, requiring up to N+1 taps; the first two taps already give a preliminary estimate. The chart shows actual interval lengths and the dashed mean. Measurement details give last/mean spacing and population standard deviation, which is timing variability rather than a confidence interval.
A gap over 8 seconds begins a new series at the next tap. The final estimate stays available until that tap or Reset. At most 33 timestamps remain in memory. Settings can be remembered, measurements are not saved across reload. This tool measures the beats you tap; it cannot infer whether you are tapping quarters, dotted beats or half-time.
The interval count and Reset share the toolbar with the tap target. The timing chart uses the available width and adapts to the window height. Reset clears the measurement; it keeps the raw interval setting. Even unfinished or invalid settings are remembered, but tap times, results and expanded details are temporary.
