Metronome
Practice steady beats, accented bars and subdivisions with a visual pulse.
About this tool
BPM counts the chosen main beat. The first beat of each bar is accented; subdivisions add quieter clicks between beats. Beats per bar is a grouping count, not a time-signature denominator. For 6/8 counted in dotted quarters, choose two beats per bar. Tempo 20–300 BPM, 1–16 beats, and 1/2/3/4clicks per beat.
Modern secure browsers use an AudioWorklet sample clock, independent of main-thread timers. Other browsers use a short Web Audio scheduling horizon; long main-thread stalls can leave gaps but missed clicks are skipped rather than burst. Visual indicators follow audio time and may pause when the page is hidden. Audio can continue in the background while the browser keeps its audio context running; OS/audio-focus suspension is outside the tool’s control.
Valid tempo edits apply live. During incomplete input, the last accepted tempo continues and is stated explicitly; committing an invalid value stops playback. Changing bar grouping or subdivision restarts the count on the next audio block. Volume 0 is silent with the visual beat still running. Stop/navigation closes context, nodes and visual callbacks. Saved settings never autoplay after reload.
