Password Generator

Passwords, passphrases and htpasswd entries

About this tool

Choose a mode and generate explicitly. Passwords use Web Crypto with unbiased rejection sampling. Complete candidates are sampled until every selected character type is present; the entropy counts exactly this valid set.

Passphrases use a fixed list of 493 unique English words of four letters, chosen independently. Eight words provide about 71.6 bits; separators add no entropy. An empty separator is allowed. This is a small word list, not Diceware.

htpasswd generates an ASCII password of at most 72 characters and a salted bcrypt entry (cost 10), locally in a cancellable worker. Copy the password and entry separately. This tool does not configure authentication or change accounts.

Results are not transmitted or saved in tool state. Changing settings or discarding clears the displayed result. Copying places it on your system clipboard. Entropy describes random generation, not the security of a service or password storage.
