Water and beverage planner
Split a total-water reference into estimated food water and a beverage share.
About this tool
This planner divides a group reference for total water into estimated food water and a calculated beverage share. The EFSA adequate-intake references for adults aged 18 and over are 2.0 L/day for women, 2.5 L/day for men, 2.3 L/day during pregnancy and 2.7 L/day during breastfeeding (EFSA 2010; EFSA summary, section 3.5 and table 2). They include drinking water, all beverages and water in food, under moderate environmental temperature and activity (PAL 1.6).
Choose one reference group. Estimate water from food in ml; the field starts empty because there is no individual food estimate. Enter your glass or bottle size; 250 ml is only an editable container example. The beverage share is reference minus food water. Dividing that share by the container size gives the number of portions, including fractions; it is not rounded up to whole portions.
Food water must be between zero and the chosen reference. Container sizes from 10 to 2000 ml, including fractional values, are accepted. These are calculation limits, not medical limits. A zero beverage share at equal food water and reference is an arithmetic result, not advice to stop drinking. Individual needs vary (NHS); the tool sets no personal drinking target and applies no weight, exercise, climate or altitude bonuses.
1 L = 1000 ml. US fluid ounces use the rounded NIST factor 1 US fl oz = 29.57353 ml and are displayed to one decimal place; these are not Imperial fluid ounces.
