Convert between WGS-84 geographic coordinates, UTM and MGRS — all fully reversible.

UTM

60 zones each 6° wide. Central meridian is at (zone − 1)·6 − 177°. Eastings have a 500 km false offset; southern-hemisphere northings get a 10 000 km false offset. Norway and Svalbard exceptions are handled automatically.

Implementation uses the Krüger n-series (Engsager & Poder), accurate to a few millimetres anywhere within the zone.

MGRS

Format: <zone><band> <100km square> <easting> <northing>. Latitude band letters span 8° (band X is 12°). 100 km grid letters use the standard NIMA "AA" scheme (cycles every three zones for columns; row letters flip on even / odd zones).

Precision is determined by the number of digits: 0 digits = 100 km, 2 = 10 km, 4 = 1 km, 6 = 100 m, 8 = 10 m, 10 = 1 m. Output uses 5+5 (1 m).
