Transliteration Workbench
Convert selected script mappings to and from Latin, inspect their tables and export text with explicit limits.
About this tool
Choose a mapping and direction, enter text and Convert. Samples respect the selected direction and convert immediately. Convert result back uses the current output in the opposite direction; it cannot restore information that was lost. Copy and TXT contain the exact result. The optional table shows base mappings and possible reverse characters, not every contextual rule.
The ISO 9 selection covers the Russian alphabet plus і, ѣ, ѳ and ѵ, not every Cyrillic language. Russian BGN/PCGN-style conversion applies contextual e/ye and ë/yë, case and distinguishing middle dots. It cannot infer an unwritten ё or resolve every geographical-name convention. Uppercase words retain uppercase digraphs.
Greek, Hebrew and Arabic are simplified mappings, not complete ISO 843/259/233 implementations or pronunciation/translation engines. Greek reverse i/o and other shared spellings use fixed defaults; lower-case sigma becomes ς at word end. Hebrew reverses consonants with final forms where appropriate, but cannot invent missing vowels. Pointing marks outside the table stay in the result and are reported.
Arabic written short vowels are mapped; shadda duplicates the mapped consonant before its vowels. In reverse, doubled consonants become shadda; hamza defaults to ء. Hamza carriers أ and إ do not invent a vowel: written vowel marks supply it. Written fatḥa + alif/alif maqṣūra, kasra + yāʾ and ḍamma + wāw produce ā/ī/ū instead of duplicate vowels. Unwritten vowels and article assimilation are not inferred.
Canonically equivalent supported letters and combining marks are recognized; unknown text is preserved without global normalization. Extra unsupported marks remain visible. Reverse spelling is inherently ambiguous for several mappings. Even ISO 9 text can fail to round-trip if it mixes Latin/script characters or contains uppercase hard/soft signs, whose Latin symbols have no case. A round-trip warning is based on the selected mapping and actual text, not a general guarantee.
Limit: 20,000 Unicode code points; invalid or oversized input is rejected without truncation. Draft and choices remain in memory during navigation, reset on reload. No text uploads. References: ISO 9 table and BGN/PCGN Russian.
