Multigrid tiling
Explore line grids and their dual tile patterns.
About this tool
Choose line families, phase and density, then Generate. The left view shows equally spaced line families; each intersection maps to a tile in the right view. Click a line to highlight its tiles, or a tile to highlight its lines and intersection. Clear selection removes the highlight.
Phase shifts the line families. Disorder adds seeded offsets; the same settings reproduce the same geometry. Zoom is applied once. Rotation and pan change the viewed patch. The finite computed window stays fixed when the page is resized. Changes clear the preview until Generate; Randomize generates a new phase, seed and hue. Reset restores every slider and value.
Color settings group tiles by area or orientation. PNG exports the current tiling, including any highlight. Not all configurations are quasiperiodic; periodic and multiple-line intersection cases are possible. Float64 tolerance merges intersections within 10⁻⁶ grid units. The generator is inspired by Pattern Collider; its PRNG and HSL palette differ.
3–20 line families, density 5–120, zoom 0.5–2, finite seed ±4,294,967,295. Up to 20 line-family offsets; no external computation or account is needed. This is an exploratory finite tiling view, not a universal aperiodicity certificate.
