Pursuit Curves

Dog curves, tractrix, and pursuit paths chasing a moving target.

About this tool

Pursuit Curves advances each pursuer toward the target’s current position with a fixed pursuer speed. Pure pursuit shows one chaser; Dogs of pursuit shows three independent chasers; the Tractrix option is a discrete pulled-point approximation, not a closed-form taut-tether construction. The blue curve is the target path, colored curves are pursuer paths, and the distance rows compare their start and final separation. Changing the target path changes its local speed, so the displayed ratio is evaluated at t=0.
