Print resolution

Pixels needed for a print size at a target DPI, or print size from pixel dimensions.

About this tool

Pixels → print shows the physical size of an image at the chosen pixel density. 3000 × 2000 pixels at 300 ppi gives 25.4 × 16.933333 cm, or 10 × 6.666667 inches. Leave the optional height empty to calculate one length.

Print → pixels calculates width and optional height in pixels for a target print size. Each value is rounded up, so the resulting image meets at least the requested density. 10 cm at 300 ppi needs 1182 pixels. Unit conversion uses exact decimal inputs and 1 inch = 2.54 cm = 25.4 mm.

PPI means image pixels per inch. Printer DPI describes ink dots per inch and is not the same quantity. A suitable image density depends on the print workflow and viewing distance; the initial 300 ppi is a starting value, not a universal quality guarantee.

This calculator changes no image files or metadata. It does not add detail or resample pixels. It uses whole positive pixel dimensions up to 9007199254740991; physical sizes are displayed to eight significant digits. Inputs, units and direction are remembered while navigating. All calculations stay in this browser.
