Platonic & Archimedean Solids
Rotate Platonic solids and truncations; toggle duals in WebGL.
About this tool
Explore the five Platonic solids and three selected Archimedean examples. Render once; selecting another solid or Dual then updates the same 3D view directly. Drag to orbit, Ctrl/⌘ + wheel to zoom. Plain wheel scrolls the page. Reset view fits the whole solid and keeps the selected inputs. Auto-rotation moves the solid and pauses in hidden views.
Dual exchanges faces and vertices; the edge count stays the same. Cube/octahedron and icosahedron/dodecahedron are dual pairs; the tetrahedron is self-dual. The selected Archimedean duals are Catalan solids and need not have regular faces. Their actual names appear above the view. Original and dual are separately normalized to maximum vertex radius 1.
Details contains rotation, the edge overlay, V/E/F counts and face composition. Colours encode the number of face sides; quadrilaterals may be rhombi. Edges are true polygon boundaries, not triangulation diagonals. These closed convex meshes satisfy V−E+F=2. This is not the complete set of thirteen Archimedean solids.
PNG exports the visible frame with model and camera metadata. OBJ exports the normalized 3D vertices and original polygon faces, without camera rotation or a colour material file. Only solid, Dual and display choices are retained; camera and rotation position are not saved. The first 3D start initializes the browser’s GPU context; subsequent form changes reuse it.
