Ideal Gas

Solve pressure, volume, amount or temperature with practical units.

About this tool

Choose the unknown quantity, enter the other three and calculate. Change the units beside each input; the physical values are preserved. The result appears once in the chosen result unit. Reset restores 1mol at 0°C and 1.01325bar; reloading restores your entries.

Model

PV=nRT, using absolute pressure and Kelvin temperature internally. R=8.31446261815324J/(mol·K). Pressure, volume and amount must be positive; Celsius temperatures may be negative but must exceed −273.15°C. Decimal commas and scientific notation are accepted.

Limits

This is an ideal-gas calculation, without gas-specific interactions, condensation, reaction, density or compressibility correction. It is generally a better approximation at low pressure and away from condensation. Extreme states are mathematical results, not evidence that a real gas remains gaseous.
