Color temperature & mired
Convert kelvin and mired values and calculate the required light-source temperature shift.
About this tool
Enter source and desired light-source temperatures in kelvin (K) or mired. Changing a unit converts a valid value without changing its meaning. Swap exchanges the complete pair. Calculate or press Enter to show results; edits clear the previous result.
mired = 1,000,000 / K; K = 1,000,000 / mired. The required shift is target mired minus source mired. Positive shifts warm the light (lower kelvin, amber direction); negative shifts cool it (higher kelvin, blue direction). Equal temperatures give zero. Results also show each input in the other unit.
This convention describes conversion of a light source by a filter. A camera white-balance correction acts oppositely; camera-specific tint/shift controls are not modeled. Mired alone does not describe green/magenta tint, spectral quality, LED compatibility, transmission or a particular gel. Check the filter manufacturer for real material. No simulated color swatch or product recommendation is implied.
